Twitter Marketing - Is It A Profitable Way To Grow Your List?

By Alexis Marquis

Software tools to automate Twitter marketing tasks were being heavily promoted several ago. It was considered that Twitter was one of the most effective ways to build a list and to get folks to order the products you are advertising. Cutting through the hype, just what kind of results can you anticipate after utilizing these Twitter marketing tools? Today, we will discuss Twitter marketing and if it is even worth it for you to use it.

Anxious to increase my product sales, I went ahead and began Twitter marketing to build a big list of followers hoping to turn them into purchasers. I ended up paying for and programs that would get me followers and programs that would basically advertise my products for me. Overall, I ended up paying for about eight different programs that would help me with all of this.

The first Twitter marketing tool I bought allowed me to automatically follow people in the hopes that they would then return the favor and follow me. Then there was the program that would un-follow people who were not following me. Removing non-followers meant I could focus on those who might be persuaded to follow me. Amongst other tools I bought, there was one program which automatically tweeted a Multi Level Marketing blog post just as soon as it was posted to my blog.

Initially, I was really pleased with the end results after using the programs in combination as they actually delivered on what they promised. But as soon as it appeared that I wasn't generating any money, my initial enthusiasm was soon dampened. My strategy was to post multiple blog entries every day and each of them was then sent straight to show on Twitter. Then I discovered a way to have all the posts done for me automatically, hoping that the more posts I would have the more Twitter users who would see them.

Well, the following are my results: After three years utilizing these tools, I had built about 10,000 Twitter followers. You may think this is an amazing number, but that's not the complete story: During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on no less than fifteen thousand blog posts in my Twitter account.

My blog posts displaying on Twitter was the only kind of advertising for that blog I did and to test the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Well, you can't say that 3 years isn't long enough to get good results but using Twitter I just got 2 - 4 visitors every day to my blog. My affiliate earnings from 2 transactions was $47 and to that you can add $8.65 Adsense revenue - very dismal all around!

In a nutshell, having nearly ten thousand followers on Twitter using all these programs will not give you the results you want. At the end of the day I'm now out of pocket for the Twitter software tools I paid for because my dollar return was so small. So in my view, while there may be good ways to advertise on Twitter, paying for the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
